Ostrich meat is popular in European restaurants. It comes in a variety of cuts, including prime steaks, fillets, sausages, burgers and diced meat. It can be substituted for beef, pork, lamb, turkey or chicken in virtually any recipe.
Ostrich meat is a healthy red meat, with an appealing texture and flavour. It is said to have a similar taste and texture to beef, although has 40% less fat. It is rich in protein and iron, yet is lower in saturated fats, calories and cholesterol than skinless chicken and turkey. It is also free from growth stimulants and hormones. Our free-range farmed ostriches are raised under ideal conditions in the healthy, sparse-rainfall central Karoo region in South Africa. Our supplier operates a modern abattoir and meat deboning factory, both built and managed under strict EU regulation.
