Australia’s most popular ‘wild’ meat, Kangaroo offers a healthy alternative to beef and is widely eaten all over the world. Because it is not farmed for mass human consumption, it is free from growth hormones and other chemicals. Kangaroo meat is a fine textured soft meat with a flavour somewhere between well hung beef and venison.

 

The Australian government closely monitors Kangaroo populations to ensure they remain viable and sustainable. Strictly adhered to regulations mean that no more than 10 - 12% of the total population may be harvested in any one year. Of the 48 different species of Kangaroo in Australia, only four may be harvested for commercial purposes.

 

Kangaroo meat is a good source of high quality protein with a low fat content and very high in iron and zinc. It is very low in unsaturated fats and has been endorsed by the National Heart Foundation of Australia for this reason. The perfect meat for the health conscious or those watching their cholesterol levels!
