Zulu people are probably best known in the UK for their famous wars against the British in the 1800s as well as Shaka Zulu, the proud warrier king. They make up the largest group of african people in South Africa, numbering some 10 million in total. Other tribes originally broke away from the Zulus, including the Xhosa and the Swazi.
Zulus remain as proud as ever, with a colourful and vibrant way of life. In the urban areas, they are part of modern South Africa, working and living within a multicultural society, often holding positions of prominence and power. However, in the rural areas, there are still many traditional Zulu homesteads ruled by the local chief.
