Also known as the VhaVenda, the Venda people originally came from central Africa before settling in what is now known as Limpopo Province in the northern part of South Africa. The remains of their first city D’zata can still be found today in the Soutpansberg Mountains and are protected as a national monument.
Today there are around 1 million Venda people in South Africa. Their traditions and way of live are largely undisturbed and they continue to practice many of their traditional customs to this day. Their artistic skills are renowned, particularly dance, music and art.
